MMFF 2023 kumita ng P1.069B; handa na sa pagbubukas ng MIFF sa Hollywood, MMFF 50th edition
Iniulat ng Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) na nagsimula nitong December 25, 2023 sa pinagsama-samang kinita ng kanyang 10 film festival entries ay umabot na sa record-breaking level na P1.069 billion nitong January 7.
Sinabi ito ni MMDA Acting Chairman at MMFF concurrent overall chairman Atty. Don Artes na nalagpasan na ang P1.061 billion record na naitala ng 2018 MMFF sa kabila na nasa 800 na sinehan lamang ang bukas buhat sa 1,200 cinemas na nakabukas noong 2018.
Ayon kay Atty. Artes, ang mga rason kaya naging matagumpay ang 2023 MMFF ay ang kalidad ng mga pelikulang inialok at mga bagong manonood.
“We received reports that moviegoers watched multiple films while others watched films repeatedly. Hopefully, we can sustain this beyond the festival so that our film producers can offer quality movies all year round. We also encourage filmmakers to create better films for the MMFF’s 50th edition,” sabi ni Atty. Artes sa gitna ng pulong balitaan kasama si MMFF Spokesperson Noel Ferrer.
Matapos ang 49th MMFF edition, palalakasin ng MMFF Committee ang mga hakbang nito para sa Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) na magpapalabas sa sampung 2023 film festival entries sa Los Angeles sa California, USA, magmula January 29 hanggang February 2.
Sa mga aktibidad sa 50th MMFF ay ang student short film caravan, short film festival, pagpapalabas ng coffee-table book, at “Cine 50,” kung saan ang top 50 MMFF films para sa nakalipas na 49 na taon ay ipapalabad sa mga piling sinehan sa halagang P50.
“We are expecting to feature bigger and better films for our 50th edition as we celebrate the cinema-goers return to theaters and patronize local movies,” sabi ni Atty. Artes.
Samantala, malugod na binati ni MIFF Consultant at Spokesperson Winston Emano ang tagumpay at record-breaking MMFF 2023, na malinaw na napakataas ang naabot nito para sa industriya ng pelikula.
“We at the MIFF intend to continue the wonderful momentum that was built up by MMFF, with the similar goal of uplifting and giving a bigger spotlight to Filipino cinema worldwide,” ani Emano.
Sa ilalim ng MIFF, magkakaroon ng serye ng pagtitipkn at diyalogo ng mga artistang Pilipino, filmmakers at scriptwriters at kanilang American counterparts.
“There will be an exchange of ideas and knowledge sharing. We hope to bridge the gap and connect the Philippine entertainment industry with that of Hollywood and the international stage,” pahayag ni Atty. Artes.
Bukod dito meron din isang hiwalay na awards night na may iba’t ibang grupo ng hurado. Ang mga resulta ay maaari o hindi magkatulad sa nakalipas na MMFF’s Gabi ng Parangal noong December.
Inihayag naman ni Artes na nakikipag-ugnayan na sila sa concerned agencies at film producers matapos matanggap ang reports na ang MMFF film entry “Rewind” ay nagleak, illegally streamed, at naikalat online.
“We are coordinating with authorities so that the illegally-streamed films will be taken down immediately,” ani Artes.
Nanawagan siya sa publiko na huwag sumali sa movie piracy dahil ito ay krimen, nakakababa ng reputasyon o imahe ng Pinoy filmmakers partikular sa kasipagan,talento at resources nila na ginamit sa kanilang mga proyekto. (Bhelle Gamboa)
