MMDA nais maglagay ng PUV Stops sa Commonwealth Avenue

Tinitignan ngayon ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) ang paglalagay ng designated stops para sa public utility vehicles (PUVs) sa Commonwealth Avenue sa Quezon City bilang bahagi sa sa itinakdang eksklusibong linya ng motorsiklo sa naturang kalsada.

Pinulong nina MMDA Acting Chairman Engr. Carlo Dimayuga III at Acting General Manager Baltazar Melgar ang mga kinatawan ng lokal na pamahalaan ng Quezon City at mga noong Oktubre 25 upang pag-usapan ang paglalagay ng designated bus at jeepney stops na layung masiguro ang ang kaligtasan ng mga gumagamit ng kalsada.

“There should be designated bus and jeepney stops for passengers as part of road safety. It’s about time to instill road discipline among all passenger vehicles,” ani Dimayuga sa idinaos na preliminary meeting sa Barangay Commonwealth Hall.

Dumalo sa pulong ang mga kinatawan ng Pasang Masda, ACTO, Stop and Go Transport Coalition, at UV Federation.

Humingi na rin ng tulong si Dimayuga sa Quezon City LGU at jeepney operators sa mga tinukoy na loading at unloading areas sa Commonwealth Avenue.

“Through this, we could strategize on how the PUVs could maneuver to their designated stops. We would like to confine pedestrians to designated loading and unloading areas,” diin ni Dimayuga.

Sinabi naman ni Pasang Masda President Obet Martin na welcome sa kanila ang plano ng MMDA at pinasalamatan si Dimayuga sa kanyang pagsuporta sa jeepney operators’ sector.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Chairman Dimayuga for addressing the concern of jeepney operators. We consider it as a welcome development,” sabi ni Martin.

Matatandaan,nagkasundo ang mga alkalde na bumubuo ng Metro Manila Council sa pagtatayo ng exclusive motorcycle lane sa Commonwealth Avenue upang maiwasan ang mga aksidente sa lansangan.

“the right outermost lane of Commonwealth Avenue shall be designated as an exclusive bicycle lane. The second lane and third lane of the same avenue will be designated as exclusive Public Utility Vehicle (for jeeps, UV Express, buses) and motorcycle lanes, respectively.
